What does a Drilling Engineer do?
- Develops the program for each well: trajectory, fluids, casing design, cementing, and budget
- Monitors the operation daily from base or on location and compares actual progress against the plan
- Analyzes drilling reports looking for early risk trends such as torque increases or lost circulation
- Approves or rejects program changes proposed by the company man and service companies
- Conducts post-well analysis and carries lessons learned into the design of subsequent wells
